Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis says he has to thank Luciano Spalletti the most thanks for the Scudetto. The Partenopei ended a 30-year wait when they finally lifted the Serie A title in May 2022, capably led by Spalletti. Speaking at an event run by Gazzetta dello Sport, De Laurentiis received the team of the year award and explained why he has to give thanks to his former coach:
“For the Scudetto, thanks above all to Spalletti. He knew how to mould the team like few others. At the end of Spalletti’s first year at Napoli we took away six fundamental players and replaced them. Of course there could have been some doubts, the fans told me in the summer, they were against me for having changed the six favourites.”
“Spalletti knew how to combine the before and after, and make the new players perform at their best. Napoli would like to win the Scudetto every year, but it is already won by being Neapolitans’.
