Lille defender Sven Botman has agreed a move to Milan, turning down an offer from Premier League club Newcastle United. A report in this morning’s La Gazzetta dello Sport states the player has given his ‘yes’ to the Rossoneri.

Gazzetta say Botman has ‘promised’ himself to Milan having said ‘no’ to Newcastle’s latest efforts to sign him. The refusal has paved the way for Milan directors Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara, who will now have to find an agreement with Lille.

In recent days, Botmna’s agents have reached a general agreement with the Milan managers for a five-year contract which should guarantee the player a basic salary of €3.5 million. Thanks to the tax discount provided for in the Italian ‘Growth Decree’, Botman’s salary, gross, will cost just over €5 million per season to the Rossoneri.

Optimism about completing the deal is palpable, but it may take a few months to finalise the move. In short, Botman’s future, barring any sensational twists and turns, will be at Milan.
