Venezia drew 2-2 with Como, leaving them at the bottom of the Serie A table. The Lagunari took the lead, then conceded two goals to the visitors before Oristanio equalized. For manager Eusebio Di Francesco, amidst the stormy conditions at the Penzo stadium, the turning point was conceding a goal with the wind in their favor.
Speaking to Sky Sport, Di Francesco explained: “We scored against ourselves. The own goal affected us at the start of the second half when we had the wind in our favor. It was our original sin.”
In the post-match press conference, he elaborated on the challenging conditions: “The goal we conceded was the key moment of the match. In the first half, it was practically impossible to play. It’s a shame about the disallowed goal; we would have deserved that reward. In reality, these matches should be postponed in the name of spectacle. But it’s okay: in my career, I’ve only been this cold once as a player, in Zurich with Roma, but at least that time I wasn’t standing still on the bench.”
Addressing the team’s difficult week, Di Francesco remained defiant: “I’m experienced enough to maintain clarity in every moment. The club believes in those who work and have a plan. In two matches, I go from being someone who develops players to someone who doesn’t know how to manage the team, but you can write whatever you want. I’m calm.”
