Paolo Zanetti’s tenure as Hellas Verona’s manager appears to be nearing its end following another crushing defeat, this time at the hands of Empoli. The 4-1 loss at home has left the club’s leadership deeply concerned, particularly given the manner of the defeat.

Calciomercato report how Verona, currently in talks for a potential sale to Texas-based Presidio Investors for around 75 million euros, find themselves in a precarious position. The team has conceded an average of 2.46 goals per game, making them the worst defense among Europe’s top five leagues.

Empoli’s dominant performance saw Sebastiano Esposito score twice in quick succession, followed by Cacace’s first Serie A goal. Despite Tengstedt’s attempt to keep Verona in the game, Colombo’s strike before halftime sealed their fate. This defeat marks Zanetti’s seventh loss in eight matches, with four consecutive defeats.

The club’s management is now faced with a crucial decision regarding the team’s technical direction. Sky Sport reports that a potential solution could be the return of Salvatore Bocchetti, who is still under contract with the club.

Verona currently sit in 17th place with just 12 points, narrowly above the relegation zone. The team had previously decided to enter a training retreat after a heavy home loss to Inter in late November, but this measure has failed to improve their performance.
