Manchester United legend, Wayne Rooney, has picked the best club for Gianluigi Donnarumma to join this summer, as the Italian attracts interest from the Premier League and Serie A.
Gianluigi Donnarumma Transfer News
The Italian shot-stopper has made the headlines in recent weeks as his time in Paris is set to end this summer, with Luis Enrique bringing in Lucas Chevalier as the new PSG number one.
Since signing for the Ligue 1 side in July 2021, Donnarumma has made 161 appearances and won four league titles, three Trophee des Champions, two Coupe de France trophies, and the Champions League.
Despite playing a huge part in helping PSG win their first UCL trophy last season, the 36-year-old has been told to find a new club this summer and has already attracted interest from multiple teams across Europe.
Manchester City appear to be in the driving seat to land the Italian this summer, as Ederson is in talks with Galatasaray over a move to Turkey and the Brazilian has also been linked with a Serie A move.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Donnarumma has agreed personal terms with Pep Guardiola’s side and an official bid will be sent if Ederson moves on this summer.
However, the former Premier League champions are not the only interested party, in fact, they are not the only interested team from Manchester, as Ruben Amorim is reportedly interested in signing the Italian.
United’s opening day defeat to Arsenal highlighted the issues they currently face in-between the sticks, as Altay Bayindir made a costly error to hand the Gunners all-three points.
A move to Manchester appears to be the most likely outcome for Donnarumma this summer and with just one-year remaining on his current deal, PSG will be looking to cash in this summer for around $40 million.
What Club Does Wayne Rooney Think Donnarumma Should Join?
As previously mentioned, Manchester United are planning on challenging Manchester City for Donnarumma’s signature this summer and will need to offload either Andre Onana or Bayindir to do so.
Andre Onana has been linked with a return to Inter, meaning Donnarumma could make his way to the Premier League side and former Manchester United star, Wayne Rooney believes the Red Devils should go all-out to sign the PSG goalie.
Rooney said: “There’s the goalkeeper situation and I’m sure every Man United fan is asking the same question. For me, Donnarumma is out there and if there’s a possibility you can get him, you have to go for him. Clearly, that the goalkeeper is an issue.
“These United players want that confidence and trust in the goal behind them and I just don’t see that with the ones we’ve got at the moment. With Donnarumma, he’s 26 and one of the best keepers in the world.
“It would be crazy if Manchester United didn’t go for him. If the deal can be done and what Donnarumma wants in terms of a salary is another question but I’d certainly be asking the question and try to get him to the club.”
The summer transfer window will end on August 31st meaning United and City have under two-weeks to agree a deal with PSG, with the latter currently leading the way in negotiations.
