USMNT star Weston McKennie is set to run down his Juventus contract unless a suitable offer comes in during the last weeks of the summer transfer window.

McKennie’s form dipped somewhat last season under the guidance of Thiago Motta and current head coach Igor Tudor. Now, the Croatian boss is ready to ship the midfielder out of his roster.

The versatile 26-year-old is desperate to be playing regular soccer ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup next year.

Will Weston McKennie Run Down His Contract?

In June, it was reported that Weston McKennie had agreed terms on a new Juventus contract. However, new general manager Damien Comolli cancelled the offer.

McKennie was set to earn €3.5million per year and his agent was due a hefty commission. Comolli thought the terms were too sizable so pulled the plug on the proposal.

That has left McKennie with two obvious options. Leave this summer in search of regular soccer or run down his current contract and be a bit-part player in Turin.

What Clubs Are Interested In Weston McKennie?

Interest in Weston McKennie has slowed somewhat in recent weeks. Roma is still toying with the idea of signing the versatile USMNT star.

Napoli and Milan had also held an interest earlier this window but that has since cooled. Across the continent, English Premier League side Aston Villa had been keeping tabs on McKennie.

If Juventus did decide to move the 26-year-old on this summer for a discounted fee, it’s likely a number of clubs would all be willing to give the American an escape route.

Will Weston McKennie Feature In The 2025-26 Serie A Opener?

It remains to be seen whether Weston McKennie will feature on MD1 of the 2025-26 Serie A opener against Parma on August 24.

The American only completed 90 minutes once across the FIFA Club World Cup and pre-season friendlies. That suggests that Igor Tudor may not be prioritizing a starting berth for the American on Sunday.

However, the 26-year-old should at least earn a place on the bench at the Allianz Stadium. He’ll likely be given some minutes against the Crusaders as Tudor will want to use as many players as possible.

Juve will be fighting on three fronts this season so McKennie’s place in the roster still holds some prominence. Of course, that could change if he is shipped on as Tudor is already eyeing Brighton’s Matt O’Riley as a replacement.
