After admitting he wants to return to management, Zinedine Zidane will not consider the Juventus role should it become available.
Zidane has been without employment for over four years having left Real Madrid in the summer of 2021. Although a number of offers have landed in his inbox, the Juve legend has held on for the right challenge.
He previously stated that money was not his main driving factor in determining a new role. It has always been about the role itself and whether he would succeed.
Zinedine Zidane Managerial Stats
Having retired from his pro playing career after the infamous 2006 World Cup final headbutt, Zinedine Zidane didn’t begin his career in management for another eight years.
That honor presented himself at LaLiga giants Real Madrid. However, he was tasked with coaching the reserve team (Castilla) initially which he did until the beginning of 2016.
He oversaw 57 games which generated 26 victories, 17 draws and 14 losses. That provided a win percentage of 45.61% and it proved enough as the senior role at the Bernabeu became vacant.
Rafael Benitez was fired in January 2016 whereby Zidane immediately replaced him. This was the Frenchman’s first senior role and he went on to oversee 149 games which produced 105 wins.
After his surprise resignation in May 2019, Zidane returned to the Los Blancos dugout in March 2019. He oversaw another 114 matches where he was victorious on 69 occasions. His overall win rate in management currently stands at 62.5%.
What Trophies Has Zinedine Zidane Won As A Head Coach?
Having won six major honors at Juventus in his playing days – including two Scudettos – Zinedine Zidane also won the same number of trophies at Real Madrid.
His most prestigious awards came on the international stage. Zidane won the 1998 World Cup as well as the European Championship in 2000. He also landed the Ballon d’Or (1998)
However, his managerial successes are arguably more impressive. In his first stint at Real Madrid, he won a trio of consecutive Champions League titles as well as the 2016-17 LaLiga.
Zidane also lifted the Club World Cup (2), the Super Cup (2), and one Spanish Super Cup. During his second spell, he won another LaLiga title and another Spanish Super Cup.
Who Will Zidane Manager Next?
As much as the Juventus faithful would one day love to see Zinedine Zidane employed as head coach, it appears that it won’t be happening in the near future.
“I feel like I can do something with the national team, that’s what I would like to do,” Zidane said at the Festival dello Sport di Trento.
Current France boss Didier Deschamps – a former Zidane team-mate at Juve and Les Bleus – has admitted he will step down from the role upon the conclusion of the 2026 World Cup.
Having held the post since 2012, Deschamps won the 2018 World Cup and finished as a runner-up four years later. Should Zidane be appointed for the job and find immediate success, the temptation of returning to Turin to try his luck at club level once again may be too hard to resist.
