Joshua Zirkzee has finally found his scoring touch for Manchester United, netting a brace in a 4-0 victory over Everton. The Dutch striker’s performance ended a three-month goal drought, marking his first goals since the Premier League opener against Fulham on August 16, 2024.
Calciomercato report that the past three months have been difficult for the former Bologna player. Zirkzee hadn’t started a Premier League match since September 29 and faced harsh criticism from the tabloids, who labeled him a “fat flop” due to missed opportunities and perceived fitness issues.
Despite Zirkzee’s recent success, his future at Old Trafford remains uncertain. New Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has expressed a preference for a different type of striker, similar to Victor Gyokeres at Sporting Lisbon. The Swedish forward is reportedly a top target for United in the upcoming transfer window.
Juventus has shown interest in Zirkzee, with former Bologna coach Thiago Motta keen on a reunion. Napoli has also entered the race, potentially offering Osimhen, currently on loan at Galatasaray, as part of a deal.
The 23-year-old striker acknowledged the challenges of adapting to Amorim’s system: “I think what Amorim asks of the strikers is very different from what Hojlund and I were used to. We’re just trying to adapt quickly and do what he expects from us. We’re bonding well, I feel there are strong connections. Difficult moments create strong people, I think that’s what’s happening now.”
