Fiorentina have officially confirmed the signing of free-agent goalkeeper, marking his return to competitive football after a year-long hiatus. The former Manchester United goalkeeper has reached an agreement with the Italian club and will sign a one-year contract with an option for an additional year, earning a salary of approximately €3 million euros net per season.
After leaving Manchester United, De Gea received numerous offers but opted to wait for the right opportunity. His patience has paid off as he finds a promising challenge with Fiorentina, a club that competes in Serie A, one of Europe’s top leagues.
A statement on the club’s official website confirmed the news:
“ACF Fiorentina announces the signing of footballer David de Gea Quintana.
De Gea, born in Madrid on November 7, 1990, developed through the youth system at Atletico Madrid, where he made his first-team debut and won both a Europa League and a UEFA Super Cup.
In the 2011/12 season, he transferred to Manchester United, where he achieved significant success, winning one English Premier League title, one Europa League, one FA Cup, two English League Cups, and three Community Shields. With 545 appearances, he holds the record as the foreign player with the most appearances for United and is the leading goalkeeper in the club’s history with 190 clean sheets.
Additionally, De Gea has represented the Spanish national team 45 times and won two European Championships with Spain’s Under-21 team.
The new Fiorentina goalkeeper will be introduced to the media on Monday, August 12, at 14:00 at the Wind3 Media Center at Rocco B. Commisso Viola Park.”
