Official: Salernitana relegated

Salernitana’s fate was sealed on Friday evening as they succumbed to a 3-0 defeat against Frosinone at the Stadio Benito Stirpe, officially marking their relegation from Serie A to Serie B.

With just 15 points from 34 matches, Salernitana find themselves rooted to the bottom of the Serie A table, unable to climb out of the relegation zone with only four league games remaining this season.

Meanwhile, Friday’s opponents, Frosinone, have lifted themselves out of the danger zone for the moment, moving into 17th place with 31 points. The mathematical impossibility of Salernitana catching up means they become the first Serie A casualty of the 2023-24 season.

As the season draws to a close, two more teams will join Salernitana in relegation. Presently, all teams below Monza in 11th place are still not mathematically safe, leaving the likes of Genoa, Lecce, Cagliari, Hellas Verona, Empoli, Udinese, and Sassuolo in the danger zone.

However, the ongoing round of league fixtures is expected to alter this scenario, bringing clarity to the relegation battle.

Salernitana’s 2023-24 campaign has been marred by consistent struggles. The club witnessed a revolving door of coaches, including Paulo Sousa, Pippo Inzaghi, Fabio Liverani, and the current manager, Stefano Colantuono.
