Paolo Montero spoke about his brief stint in charge of the Juventus first team, and insisted he is happy to continue with the youth squad. The Bianconeri legend was called up to the Old Lady’s senior squad following the dismissal of Max Allegri at the tail end of the 2023-24 season. Speaking at the Vialli and Mauro Foundation Golf Cup, Montero discussed his time in charge:
“It has been days of pleasure, something I never expected. I thank the players for treating me with humility. My future is to live in Turin. I want to work to help the boys grow,” began the former Juventus defender, who despite being called in at short notice, managed to secure 4 points while leading the Bianconeri.
Montero was then asked if he had plans to coach a first team, but he replied, “No, I’m happy where I am. There are paths, I’ve never deluded myself. The club has always been clear, and I thank them for bringing me to the first team. I will continue to work for the good of Juve.”
From the Primavera to the “big ones,” a leap into a completely different world. What impressed the Uruguayan the most? “The group. I found a spectacular group, and it showed. They achieved all their goals by winning the Coppa Italia and qualifying for the Champions League. Fortunately, they finished third, which was their objective.”
Finally, there were praises for a particular young player: “I saw Yildiz very well. Now I see him as a man. He made the leap because he trains with people who have won everything.”
