Milan head coach Stefano Pioli has praised his team’s performance as they picked up a 2-0 win over Lazio at San Siro on Saturday. The Rossoneri have now won three in a row as they continue to battle with rivals Inter atop the Serie A standings.
Milan have conceded just one goal across their last four matches and they have quickly tightened the back line after their embarrassment away to the Nerazzurri earlier this month. Pioli spoke to DAZN after the match as he talked about Milan’s strong display, Yacine Adli and Yunus Musah:
On Milan improving in the second period: “Honestly we had prepared for them to try to dribble a little less inside the pitch and to look more for depth with the pair far from the ball, midfielder and winger. Sometimes in the first half we forced it a little too much, we stretched out and took some counter attacks. Certainly in the second half we were more compact, energetic, with a higher level of desire. It’s not easy to play every three days, but I think we won a difficult match with great merit.”
On speaking to Adli at the end of the game: “I said it was the first match he played at San Siro, it showed a little. He could have been a little more enterprising, we could have looked for him more but I have to carefully review whether it was him who didn’t find the right position or whether sometimes his teammates delayed certain solutions. But he is growing a lot and has become a starter for Milan, that is, one of the 20 players who can play any match. An important growth, he worked a lot to get here and now he must continue to grow.”
On Musah: “In my opinion, with the ball in Calabria, both Pulisic and Loftus always worked short, so whoever received the ball was easily markable. We should have extended with one of the two, we did less in the first half. Yunus has more insertion characteristics, a lot of leg, a lot of running: he favored Pulisic because he took away the double. Yunus is growing, I would like him to be a little more disciplined without the ball for how we want to work but then they can allow themselves some inattention for all the energy and quality that he put into the match.”
