Pioli: ‘You don’t leave Milan, I am very happy here’

Start

Milan coach Stefano Pioli insisted he is very happy to be coaching the Rossoneri and wants to end the season on a high. A 2-1 victory over Fiorentina made it six victories in a row for the Rossoneri, putting them six points clear of Juventus in the race for second place. Speaking post-match, Pioli talked about returning to Florence to face his old team, but would not be drawn on his future, despite rumours that he could leave in July when the season ends:

“Returning to Florence is always an emotion for me; it’s always a pleasure to rediscover this environment that has given me so much.”

On the game: “We approached the game well, with confidence and positivity. I am very satisfied; after the breaks, it is never easy to find the rhythm.”

Regarding Milan’s current form: “It’s a great moment, lasting for two to three months. The team is growing, improving; the standings are what they are, 14 points are many, but I don’t think there is such a big gap between the two teams. Inter took advantage of a month and maintained the lead they achieved.”

About the affection he feels for the Rossoneri club: “How can one not be fond of Milan? There is a fantastic fan base; I am very happy. But I believe that no one should think about the future; the club should do it because it needs to plan the season. We must remain focused on the present; there will be many tough matches.”

“In football, nothing is invented. We changed a lot last summer; it took time to get to know each other. This year we have a quality team,” Pioli continued.

On Leao: “All teams must rely on the qualities of individuals. Leao is now at his peak.”

Regarding his future: “I have never had any doubts; you don’t leave Milan. I am very well here; I know very happy that we are ambitious, and everyone expects the maximum and to win. I am very happy here; it only depends on what will happen. Let’s stay focused, but I appreciate the words of the president.”
