Legendary Italian coach Arrigo Sacchi has shared his thoughts on the upcoming Serie A season, focusing on the Scudetto race. In a recent interview with Il Giornale, Sacchi discussed the challenges of retaining the title and offered insights on several top teams.
In Serie A, since the time of Conte’s Inter, through Pioli’s Milan and Spalletti’s Napoli, whoever wins the Scudetto fails to repeat. Will this happen to Simone Inzaghi as well?
“I’m not a fortune teller, I just say that Inter is certainly the favorite team for the next championship too because it’s the most structured, but it will need to equip itself with great humility to be able to repeat the brilliant results.”
And Conte at Napoli? Wasn’t he one of your favorites?
“Antonio is excellent. I hope and wish that President ADL understands his value and helps him at the beginning of the work. At the same time, I hope that Antonio moves more and more decisively towards strategy.”
What do you think about Fonseca at Milan? He talked about dominant football: isn’t it too demanding?
“I followed Fonseca during his time in Ukraine and I formed a favorable opinion, then I lost sight of him. If instead of announcing the dominance of the game he had prepared and executed it, it would have been better. To achieve it, the beginning will be complicated because Milan fans know how to recognize quality football. It happened in my time too. We started well in Pisa, then the week after we took a beating from Fiorentina at San Siro. There were no whistles and President Berlusconi asked me: what do we do? I replied: let’s continue on this path, when we last 90 minutes instead of 60, the results will come too.”
