In a recent interview with Sky Sport, Sassuolo CEO Giovanni Carnevali addressed several key topics regarding the club’s transfer market activities and plans for the upcoming season following their relegation to Serie B. The club are set to start over in Italy’s second division after an 11-year stint in Serie A, with a number of their players being linked with transfers.
Regarding star player Domenico Berardi, Carnevali acknowledged potential interest from Serie A clubs but emphasized the player’s current focus on recovery. He stated, “It’s normal for players like him to receive requests every summer. We’ll see what comes in, because it needs to be something significant. He’s our champion. Without him this season, we had enormous difficulties.”
On the potential goalkeeper swap involving Andrea Consigli and Monza’s Valoti, Carnevali revealed, “Regarding Consigli, his situation and that of Valoti are true. At this moment, however, we’re at a standstill. Not because of an issue between the two clubs, but because Andrea wants to think about it.”
Discussing the current transfer market climate, Carnevali noted, “Today, all clubs are in some difficulty. There’s a market, that of the Premier League, which is stagnant. Transfers of a certain value aren’t being made, and this affects the entire transfer market.”
Regarding Armand Laurienté, Carnevali mentioned interest from multiple clubs, including Marseille and Fenerbahçe. He stated, “There are many possibilities. To give a number? I don’t know. It could be around 15 or 20 million. We think this is the right figure, but I can also tell you that I would almost prefer to give up this economic result to keep the player.”
Looking ahead to Sassuolo’s Serie B campaign, Carnevali acknowledged the challenges ahead: “We know it’s a difficult championship and there will be a lot to do. Today we are in a construction phase and we know it’s complicated. There are some players who want to be sold, and for some there’s a possibility, for others not.”
He concluded by expressing his disagreement with the late transfer window closure, stating, “I don’t agree with this, because you can’t play with the transfer market still open.”
