Serie A | Empoli v Udinese: Probable starting lineups

Start

As Empoli prepare to host Udinese in Serie A, both teams are grappling with injury concerns that will shape their tactical approaches.

Empoli manager Roberto D’Aversa is expected to adopt a 3-5-2 formation, partly due to the unavailability of several key players. The attack will likely feature a partnership of Milan loanee Lorenzo Colombo and the in-form Pietro Pellegri. Despite a career marred by injuries, Pellegri has found his scoring touch, netting in his last two appearances. The striker now has the opportunity to score in three consecutive games for the first time in his Serie A or Ligue 1 career.

D’Aversa’s squad selection is significantly hampered by injuries. The list of sidelined players includes Szymon Zurkowski, Samuele Perisan, Tyronne Ebuehi, Saba Sazonov, Alberto Grassi, and Jacopo Fazzini, despite the recent international break providing some recovery time.

On the Udinese side, the attacking duties will fall to either Keinan Davis or Lorenzo Lucca. Lucca has been particularly impressive in the air since his Serie A debut last season, with only Duvan Zapata surpassing his tally of six headed goals in the Italian top flight. However, Davis also presents a significant aerial threat for the Bianconeri.

Udinese’s injury woes continue as midfielder Martin Payero recently suffered a knee injury during training. He joins veteran striker Alexis Sanchez on the sidelines, with the former Arsenal player yet to make his debut since returning to Udine due to persistent calf issues.

Empoli (3-5-2): Vasquez; Goglichidze, Ismajli, Viti; Gyasi, Henderson, Haas, Maleh, Pezzella; Pellegri, Colombo

Udinese (3-5-2): Okoye; Giannetti, Bijol, Toure; Ehizibue, Lovric, Karlstrom, Zarraga, Kamara; Thauvin, Lucca
