Serie A Introduces new transfer window in June for 2025 Club World Cup

Start

Serie A has officially announced a new transfer window in June, specifically designed to accommodate the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. This decision comes in response to the unique challenges posed by the tournament, which will take place in the United States during the summer of 2025.

The creation of this additional transfer window marks a significant change in the world of football, as it is the first time a tournament will span across two seasons. This unusual timing necessitated adjustments to how teams can be constructed and led to modifications in transfer market rules.

FIFA recently communicated that it would allow affiliated associations of all teams participating in the Club World Cup to open an extra transfer window in early June, in addition to the regular window that typically opens on July 1st.

Serie A promptly embraced this opportunity. On November 21, 2024, the league officially requested permission to have an early transfer window from June 1 to June 10, with transfers valid for the 2025/26 sporting season.

The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) swiftly approved this request during a Federal Council meeting. The FIGC confirmed, “Taking into account the 2025 edition of the FIFA Club World Cup, at the request of Lega Serie A and pending the definition of specific regulations, it has been decided to authorize an additional transfer window from June 1 to June 10, 2025.”

This new transfer window will provide Serie A clubs, especially those participating in the Club World Cup, with increased flexibility in managing their squads. It will allow teams to make necessary adjustments and reinforcements ahead of the prestigious international tournament.
