Atalanta secured their seventh consecutive victory in Serie A with a 3-1 triumph over Parma, thanks to goals from Mateo Retegui, Ederson, and Ademola Lookman. The match also marked the return of Giorgio Scalvini from injury.
Entering the international break in impressive form, Atalanta faced a few injury concerns with Sead Kolasinac, Davide Zappacosta, Ben Godfrey, and Gianluca Scamacca sidelined. Parma had Hernani back on the bench but continued to miss several players including Adrian Bernabé and Lautaro Valenti. The scoring opened just four minutes into the match when Retegui, the league’s top scorer, directed a cross from Raoul Bellanova into the net without needing to jump.
Parma’s Ange-Yoan Bonny came close shortly after, curling a shot just wide. Atalanta’s Lookman thought he had scored in the eighth minute but was ruled offside following a back-heel assist from Mario Pasalic. Despite some near misses, Atalanta doubled their lead when Ederson tapped in from a Matteo Ruggeri cross.
As the match progressed, both teams had opportunities. Lookman was denied by Parma’s goalkeeper Zion Suzuki, who made several crucial saves. Just before half-time, Marco Carnesecchi also had to intervene to deny Bonny’s attempt.
After the break, Parma found their footing and pulled one back through Cancellieri, who scored with a powerful left-footed shot after maneuvering between defenders. However, Atalanta’s coach Gian Piero Gasperini was sent off for dissent shortly thereafter.
Despite some confusion in defense leading to a handball against Rafael Toloi, Atalanta maintained control. Lookman had another goal disallowed for offside before finally scoring at the back post from a Juan Cuadrado cross.
In addition to the victory, Atalanta celebrated Scalvini’s early return from surgery for a torn anterior cruciate ligament, adding further optimism for the team as they head into the next phase of the season.
