Serie A | Venezia 0-2 Atalanta: Match Report

Start

Atalanta continued their impressive form with a convincing 2-0 win over Venezia at the Stadio Pier Luigi Penzo. Despite facing an extensive injury list, La Dea demonstrated their depth and quality to secure three valuable points away from home.

The visitors wasted no time in asserting their dominance, breaking the deadlock after just seven minutes. A corner kick caused chaos in the Venezia box, allowing Mateo Retegui to nod the ball down for Mario Pasalic, who expertly volleyed home from close range.

Atalanta continued to create chances throughout the first half, with Charles De Ketelaere and Ademola Lookman both coming close to extending the lead. Lookman was particularly unlucky, seeing his powerful strike rattle the crossbar in the 28th minute.

Venezia struggled to contain Atalanta’s attacking prowess, and their misery was compounded just seconds into the second half. Retegui capitalized on a defensive error by Antonio Candela, cleverly lobbing the ball over debutant goalkeeper Filip Stankovic to double Atalanta’s advantage.

The home side, now winless in five of their last six matches, failed to mount a significant comeback. Their best chances fell to Gaetano Oristanio, who twice fired over the bar from promising positions.

Stankovic, son of former Inter and Lazio player Dejan, made several impressive saves to prevent further damage, including a fingertip stop to deny Lazar Samardzic late in the game.

This victory solidifies Atalanta’s position in the top half of the Serie A table, while Venezia’s struggles continue as they remain dangerously close to the relegation zone.
