Spalletti: ‘We showed that our football is effective in Europe’

Luciano Spalletti believes his Napoli side showed the efficacy of their brand of football following a 2-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League. A first half Victor Osimhen goal gave them the perfect start, before Giovanni di Lorenzo added to the tally and killed off the game after the hosts were reduced to 10 men.

Speaking after the match, Spalletti expressed his satisfaction at the team’s performance in a tough environment and why he feels the tie is still 50-50 for the moment:

“I’m very satisfied with the performance because we played with personality from the start, managing the challenge and taking it to where we wanted. We played a great game even though we could have also scored one more goal, but it’s okay because as a mature team we reasoned without risking taking goals.”

“For me, qualification is always 50-50 because anyway the return leg has to be played. It takes the utmost humility because presumption becomes an enemy and matches can change at any time.”

“We played a game showing that our football is effective even in Europe, while Eintracht played the Italian way by putting themselves in defense, we did really well.”

“In this challenge we didn’t have to let them command the game because it would have become dangerous, we were good at jumping on them immediately after losing the ball. An immediate aggression designed not to let them find their tactical order, we did it well and it gave us advantages.”
