Thiago Motta: “Beukema Can Play Fullback Against Inter”

Bologna manager Thiago Motta says Sam Beukema could play as full-back again when host Inter at the weekend. The Rossoblu have been on a sensational run of form that includes six Serie A wins in a row, taking them up to 4th place in the table. Speaking ahead of the Nerazzurri’s visit, Motta thanked the fans for their support and explained what kind of match he expects from Inter:

“It will be a good game. They are strong and start as favorites in the league, having reached the final in the previous Champions League. We are where we deserve to be, both for what we show on the field and for the training sessions during the week. The boys know what they have to do, and with our fans behind us, we believe we can deliver our performance.”

Expressing gratitude for the fans’ support, Motta added, “I am grateful for the affection of the fans, and I am certain they would support us even if things were to go wrong. They give me beautiful emotions. I am happy to be the Coach of February; it’s the result of the hard work we’ve put in. The award goes to me, but it wouldn’t have been possible without the players. Inter is strong, but like every team, they have their weaknesses. We can capitalize on our quality. I admire Simone Inzaghi a lot for his ideas.”

In conclusion, Motta remarked, “I think the game will be more open compared to the Coppa Italia match. They easily find the goal, but we can prevent them from doing so. In the first leg, we were two goals down after 15 minutes, but then we fought back and managed to equalize. Arnautovic’s departure? We all gained from it; he wanted to go to Inter. Beukema played the full game against Fiorentina as a fullback, and with his qualities, he can do it. Posch is in very good shape, as always.”
