Thiago Motta to sign with Juventus next week

Start

Calciomercato and other Italian sources report that Thiago Motta will be the new head coach of Juventus as of July 1. According to Sky Sport and various others, the signing of the contract is expected to take place next week in Lisbon, Portugal, where the family of the former Bologna coach resides.

Motta, who led Bologna to the Champions League for the first time in 61 years, will sign a three-year contract set to expire on June 30, 2027. The Italo-Brazilian coach’s salary will be around €3.5 million euros, potentially reaching 5 million with bonuses.

In recent days, Motta embarked on a trip to Barcelona, where his father and brother live, riding his motorcycle. He will later join his wife and three daughters in Cascais. This brief period of relaxation comes after a season that ended with public celebrations for the historic achievement with Bologna and emotional tears after the final match against Genoa.

Motta will replace Massimiliano Allegri, who was dismissed on May 17, just 48 hours after winning the Coppa Italia final against Atalanta. Allegri is currently negotiating the terms of his mutual termination with Juventus’ legal team. His contract with the club runs until summer 2025, and his initial demand to receive the 14 million euros gross (20 million including his staff’s compensation) was rejected by the club. Both parties hope to avoid resolving the dispute in court, following Juventus’ complaints about Allegri’s behavior on and off the field during the Coppa Italia final on May 15.
