Inter, Juventus, Milan and Lazio striker Bobo Vieri revealed he made the move to the Nerazzurri to play with Ronaldo. Speaking in an interview on Amazon Prime Video’s “Fenomeni” (via Calciomercato) hosted by Luca Toni. In the interview, Vieri reflected on many of the most important and controversial moments of his long career.
Ronaldo fenomeno
“Ronaldo? I went to Inter to play with him. On the first day, I went to the locker room, it was just the two of us, and I said to him: ‘Hi Ronnie, I’m here to play with you.’ He was a player like no other. Unfortunately, due to injuries, we played together very little, but we could have become one of the strongest duos in the world.”
Blessed by God
“He would take the ball from his own area and dribble past everyone. You could see how strong he was in training. He was so fast that with his double step, he dribbled past everyone, nutmegging everyone. Sole, looking one way, going the other. Crazy things never seen before, that made you say ‘who the hell are you? Where did you come from?’ You play against him and say ‘what is this guy?’ I always say: blessed by God. He was meant to play football. But when you see him every day in training, every day you feel like thanking God that you play with him.”
‘More of a man than all of you’
“The phrase ‘I’m more of a man than all of you’? That night after the game, I was having dinner with Buffon. The next day, I read in the newspapers about a fight between me and Buffon, accusing each other. I decided to go to the press conference with the printed article and said the famous phrase ‘I’m more of a man than all of you put together.’ Today, if you asked me if I did the right thing by giving that interview, I’d say yes. They were all lies. Nowadays, with social media, one can respond and defend oneself.”
Massimo Moratti
“After all the mess related to the surveillance and the ensuing events, for ten years, we almost didn’t have a relationship. It would have been enough for one of us to call the other, and everything would have been resolved. About twenty days ago, I went to the office to see the President. We talked for about half an hour, I made the first move. There was great affection between us, we had six intense years, we hugged and remembered the old times. He was kind and gentle as always, he’s a great person. I was pleased to go see him and say hello; it was the right thing to do.”
