La Repubblica report that at least 10 more players are involved in the betting scandal that is rocking Italian football, including one more Juventus player. Juve youngster Nicolò Fagioli is ‘likely to be the tip of the iceberg’ according to the newspaper, following news of a betting probe that also involves Sandro Tonali and Nicolò Zaniolo.
The report outlines that Fagioli handed over his smartphone to law enforcement earlier, which in turn has seen many other players involved in the investigation into alleged betting on illegal sites. According to the newspaper there are over ten players involved, primarily from Serie A, of which at least one is another Juventus player.
Since it is betting on illegal platforms and not ‘football betting’ that is being alleged, therefore not ‘the deliberate alteration of the outcome of a game’, none of the players will face criminal consequences. However, the case is intended to be discussed and, above all, to expand further.
Finally, Repubblica cited an investigative source according to who, the arrival of the police at Coverciano was expected, and that the ‘scoop’ of media personality Fabrizio Corona has done nothing but increase the risk of the cancellation of the evidence and, at the same time, accelerate the times involved int he investigation.
