Urbano Cairo, President at Torino, has revealed that Samuele Ricci was ‘very pleased’ to leave Torino as the Italian completes his medical with AC Milan.
Why Did Samuele Ricci Leave Torino?
The 23-year-old will complete his move to AC Milan after landing in the city during the late hours of July 2nd, following a successful medical with the Rossoneri.
Ricci will have some big shoes to fill as the centre of midfield is a prestigious position at AC Milan, including the likes of Massimo Ambrosini who made a bold prediction for the club’s performance next season.
Torino will receive around $30 million for the Italian midfielder, which is around $20m more than the club spent on Ricci in July 2022 – joining from Empoli.
Since his arrival, Ricci has made 113 appearances for Torino, contributing to 11 goals (4G +7A) and establishing himself as one of the best midfielder prospects in Europe.
Ricci made his international debut back in June 2022 and has become a regular member of the Azzurri national side in recent times, featuring in both camps in 2025.
Following his successful spell with Torino, Ricci opted to make the next step in his career and this decision comes for multiple reasons – primarily due to Ricci’s quality in midfield.
However, Torino are also looking to make some profits this year, mainly to fund reinforcements but also cope with the clubs’ stadium lease agreement and mortgage which is reaching its expiry date.
What Did Torino President Say About Samuele Ricci?
Torino will now have a huge hole in their midfield following Ricci’s exit and this will need to be addressed during the summer transfer window ahead of next season.
The Turin-based side finished 11th in the Italian first division last season and are currently one of the favorites to face relegation on Serie A betting sites.
Urbain Cairo, President at Torino, spoke about how Torino’s exit will impact the club going forward and claimed the Italian was ‘pleased’ to leave the club.
Torino President, Urbano Cairo: “We satisfied the player, who had a very good journey with us. He had this offer, which he was pleased to accept. We now have an interesting alternative. It’s normal in the evolution of things.
“Captains leave, but new, and equally good ones are created. Everyone sells, not just Torino. I’m talking about him because we really are one step away, like for Ricci at Milan.
“For the rest of Torino’s transfer targets, there are other things at play and ongoing negotiations, but I want to have more certainties before talking about them. The goal, however, is to give the coach a team that is at least 90% ready before the pre-season training camp.”
