Mason Mount has attracted interest from a host of Serie A sides this summer, after the Englishman’s disappointing spell with Manchester United.
Will Manchester United Sell Mason Mount?
The English international has struggled to make an impact in Manchester since signing from Chelsea in the 2023 summer transfer window and United’s $60 million expenditure looks like a poor business move at the current moment in time.
Since making the move to Old Trafford, Mount has endured a terrible time with injuries and made just 46 appearances for the Red Devils across two full campaigns.
Last season, the 26-year-old started just eight games in the Premier League, missing 14 through injury and scoring just one goal – failing to register a single assist.
His standout performance came in United’s Europa League semi-final victory over Athletic Club, as Mount came off the bench to score two spectacular goals and secure a place in the final.
However, his overall performance in the red jersey has failed to live up to expectation, dropping out of the England squad and diminishing the bright potential many expected during his Chelsea days.
Ruben Amorim has been very vocal about his admiration for the Cobham academy graduate, as Mount’s high-pressing and energetic nature is something that is desperately needed in the Portuguese coaches system.
Despite having the backing from his manager, Mount has been tipped with a move away and a switch to Italy’s top division is one of the favored options on Serie A betting sites.
Could Mason Mount Move To Serie A?
The former Chelsea star has three-years remaining on his current deal and any possible transfer bid would need to be in the region of $40m as United are not looking to take a major loss on the Brit.
One side that may be willing to submit a fair bid for the Manchester United star is Napoli, as the Serie A have previously found success with players that struggled at Manchester United.
Antonio Conte’s side won the Serie A title last season for only the second time in history and Scott McTominay was the standout performer, winning the league’s MVP award.
Romelu Lukaku, who also endured a difficult time in Manchester, was the leading marksman for Napoli and both the Belgian and McTominay have a strong relationship with Mount.
Also, Conte was in charge of Chelsea as Mount came through the ranks at Stamford Bridge and the Italian was reportedly impressed by the Englishman when he was just 17-years-old.
United are looking to offload multiple players this summer, with Mount being low down on the exodus list, as Juventus are negotiating a $30m deal for Jadon Sancho.
Marcus Rashford, Antony and Rasmus Hojlund have all been linked with moves away from Old Trafford, with Matheus Cunha signing from Wolves and Bryan Mbeumo edging closer to a switch from Brentford.
Napoli have already added Kevin De Bruyne to their roster this season, as the Belgian joined on a free agency deal and the Italian side may look to pry another Premier League star away from Manchester.
Juventus, Fiorentina and Como 1907 are also possible options for the Englishman this summer if he choose to move on, but no formal bid has been made by any Serie A side at this current moment in time.
