Manchester United Divert Attention To Another Serie A Star After Tempting Moise Kean Release Clause Expires

Start

Manchester United have turned their attention to Marcus Thuram after missing out on Moise Kean, as the Fiorentina striker’s tempting release clause expired.

Why Did Manchester United Not Sign Moise Kean?

The Fiorentina Star had been tipped with a move away from Italy after a stellar 2024/25 campaign, finishing as the second-highest scorer in Serie A with 19 goals in 32 appearances.

Up until July 15th, the 25-year-old had a release clause of around $55 million and several clubs were considering the option of triggering this fee – with United being the favorites on Serie A betting sites.

However after no official bid was submitted, the former Everton star’s availability became far less enticing and any move away from the Serie A side now seems increasingly unlikely.

This is because Fiorentina are not willing to entertain any offers that aren’t pushing $75m and La Viola are reportedly ready to offer their star striker a substantial salary to lock Kean down for the coming years.

Interestingly, the release clause will come back into action during the same period next year, but this could be removed if the Italian side manage to agree the new deal with Kean this summer.

Ruben Amorim may rue the chance to not sign the Fiorentina star, as United are dwindling in this summer transfer window and have only added Matheus Cunha to their roster.

A deal for Bryan Mbeumo appeared to be near completion during the opening weeks of the window, however, after Brentford rejected two bids from the Red Devils it is becoming far less likely.

United may be interested in making a bid for Kean this summer, but the move has now become increasingly more difficult as the 25-year-old still has four years remaining on his contract.

Are Manchester United Interested In Marcus Thuram?

With the chance to sign Moise Kean appearing to have faded away, the United will be diverting their attention to Inter star Marcus Thuram, as scoring goals was Ruben Amorim’s biggest issue last season.

The red side of Manchester only scored 44 goals in the Premier League last season, which was less than the likes of West Ham, Wolves, Fulham and Crystal Palace.

The Frenchman scored 18 goals across Serie A and the Champions League last season, scoring in each of the knockout stages of the UCL prior to the final – where the Italian side were thrashed by PSG.

Inter have already lined up a possible replacement, as the Serie A side are reportedly interested in signing Chelsea star Christopher Nkunku who is set to leave the Blues this summer.

The Red Devils have not submitted an official bid for the French international, but United are currently putting all of their attention into signing Mbeumo.

Thuram has three-years remaining on his current deal in Milan and the 27-year-old appears to be happy in Italy, meaning any bid would need to be a truly substantial one.
