Sunderland Launch Official Bid For Bologna’s Jhon Lucumi

Start

The latest Jhon Lucumi transfer news has revealed that Sunderland have sent an official offer to Bologna for the centre-back.

Lucumi could be the latest star to leave the Coppa Italia winners this summer. Dan Ndoye is on the brink of joining Nottingham Forest and Sam Beukema has already joined Napoli.

Czech international defender Martin Vitik has already been drafted in but head coach Vincenzo Italiano will be seeking further reinforcements in the backline if Lucumi does quit.

Jhon Lucumi Transfer News

After Sunderland submitted a formal offer for Jhon Lucumi, offshore sportsbooks have trimmed the odds on Bologna to finish in the top four this season. Such is the importance of Lucumi to the Coppa Italia winners.

The Mackems lead the way for Lucumi’s signature but will face competition for the Colombian centre-back. The likes of Milan, Roma and Napoli are all keeping tabs on the 27-year-old.

So to are a host of other Premier League sides. Man United, Tottenham, Aston Villa, Bournemouth and Brentford are just some of England’s elite clubs keeping a watchful eye over Lucumi.

How Much Have Sunderland Bid For Jhon Lucumi?

Although Jhon Lucumi’s release clause has expired, Sunderland firmly believes they can get their man. Lucumi was available for €28million.

However, the Black Cats have sent an opening bid of €25m. That is according to a report on July 31 from Gazzetta dello Sport. The Italian publication also said that Villarreal and Atletico Madrid are lining up bids.

Regis Le Bris men have signed seven new players already this summer. The latest acquisition was Granit Xhaka though defensive reinforcements are now the priority.

Who Could Replace Jhon Lucumi At Bologna?

Replacing Jhon Lucumi will be no easy feat from Bologna’s perspective. Especially after losing Dutch defender Sam Beukema to Napoli earlier this window.

Nonetheless, the Rossoblu have already drafted in highly-rated Czech international Martin Vitik from Sparta Prage for an €11m fee.

Giovanni Leoni remains a target but the Coppa Italia winners face strong competition for his signature. The likes of Diogo Leite, Fali Cande and Fedde Leysen are all being monitored as potential replacements.

Despite all the potential suitors being lined up, head coach Vincenzo Italiano remains confident that Lucumi will put pen to paper on a new deal.

It remains to be seen whether that will happen but the Lucumi saga is likely to entertain many more twists and turns before its conclusion.
