Will Napoli Make A Move For Wantaway Atletico Madrid Striker?

According to the latest Alexander Sorloth transfer news, the Atletico Madrid striker is reportedly set to quit the Spanish giants. 

Sorloth has fallen out with legendary boss Diego Simeone and is seeking new employment before the transfer window slams shut.

The burly Norwegian hitman was unhappy about being benched for the LaLiga opener against Espanyol on Sunday. A game in which Simeone preferred to start with Antoine Griezmann and Giacomo Raspadori up top.

Although Napoli are plotting a bid for Fiorentina forward Moise Kean, sports journalist Matteo Moretto believes the Azzurri have always admired Alexander Sorloth.

“Atlético is looking for a solution to let him leave, and Napoli always has followed and appreciated him,” Moretto posted on his official X page.

“As of today, I’m not aware of any direct contacts, but Napoli is evaluating multiple options before making a final decision,” he concluded.

The Serie A champions are in the market for a new goal-getter after it was confirmed Romelu Lukaku is ruled out for three months. The Belgian suffered a calf strain in the pre-season win over Olympiacos.

How Much Will Alexander Sorloth Cost?

According to TransferMarkt, Alexander Sorloth is valued at €25million. The 6ft 4in forward has three years left on his current deal.

It’s understood that Atletico Madrid would want around €35m for the Norwegian international. That is well within Napoli’s budget and cheaper than other options they’ve explored.

Sorloth has similar attributes to Romelu Lukaku and would make an ideal replacement for the 32-year-old. He has proven himself in Spain, Denmark and Turkey whilst also gaining experience playing in England and Germany.

As it stands, only Premier League side Newcastle have shown minor interest. The Magpies are in the market for a striker to replace wantaway star Alexander Isak.

Alexander Sortloth Career Goals

Napoli could do a lot worse than Alexander Sorloth. The 29-year-old is in his prime years and has been a huge success in Spain. Although he has fallen out with Diego Simeone.

Last season, Sorloth rattled home 24 goals across 53 appearances in all competitions. 20 of those came in LaLiga with 12 directly from the bench.

Sorloth famously scored LaLiga’s quickest ever hat-trick (3 minutes, 57 seconds) when he eventually netted all four goals in the 4-0 win against Real Sociedad. He actually scored 24 times for the White and Blues during his loan spells there. Sorloth also scored 26 times in his one year with Villarreal.

Overall, the Norwegain has rattled home 155 career goals in 422 appearances. Something of which will appeal to Napoli in their pursuit of replacing Romelu Lukaku.
