Roma have the chance to move to top of Serie A on October 5th, as the Giallorossi face Fiorentina away from home and you can find a full preview, prediction, possible lineups and betting tips below.

Fiorentina vs Roma Preview

Gian Piero Gasperini has adapted quickly to life in the capital, as the veteran manager has guided Roma to four wins from the opening five league matches and sits third in Serie A.

The Giallorossi have picked up wins over Bologna, Pisa, Lazio and Hellas Verona, while keeping a clean sheet on each occasion and their only slip came in a 1-0 defeat to Torino on September 14th.

This defeat brought the only goal against the Rome-based side, however, Gasperini’s men did suffer a frustrating result in their latest outing after losing 1-0 to Lille in the Europa League.

Roma had three chances from the penalty spot after the referee ordered multiple re-takes due to encroachment, as Artem Dovbyk missed twice and Matias Soule failed to take advantage in the final effort.

This symbolizes the Serie A sides’ primary issue this season, as the Giallorossi have scored just five goals in Serie A so far and Roma are now looking to sign Timo Werner to improve their attacking roster.

Winning on October 4th is not only necessary to put the Europa League defeat behind them, but also to put Roma in pole position as the Giallrossi can move to top of the table – although it could change after Napoli or AC Milan’s matches.

Fiorentina will be looking to halt Roma’s climb up the table and La Viola enjoyed a more successful night in Europe than their upcoming opponents after beating Sigma Olomouc 2-0 in the Europa Conference League.

Picking up three-points in Europe was vital for Stefano Pioli’s side, as Fiorentina are winless from their opening five league matches with three draws and two defeats.

Similarly to Roma, La Viola have struggled to find the back of the net after scoring just three goals in Serie A and Fiorentina played out a 0-0 stalemate with Pisa in their latest league clash.

The Florence-based side managed to avoid any fresh injury concerns during their European outing, but Tariq Lamptey and Christian Kouame will miss out with long-term injuries.

As for Roma, Paulo Dybala and Leon Bailey remain the only absentees, but Gasperini has a decision to make up front as Artem Dovbyk and Evan Ferguson have failed to cement their place as the leading striker.

Fiorentina vs Roma Prediction

These two sides have been evenly split in recent seasons, with Roma winning five of the last 10, while Fiorentina have picked up three victories over the Giallorossi.

Last season, La Viola won this fixture in emphatic style, beating Roma 5-1 at Stadio Artemio Franchi, as Moise Kean bagged a brace in front of the home fans.

The Italian striker is yet to score in Serie A this season, which has been the primary reason for Fiorentina’s struggles in front of goal as the 25-year-old scored 19 league goals last year.

With that in mind, we expect the match on October 5th to be a low-scoring affair as both teams have struggled to find the back of the net and the points should be shared in Florence.

Prediction: Fiorentina 1-1 Roma

Fiorentina vs Roma Possible Lineups

Fiorentina: De Gea; Comuzzo, Pongracic, Ranieri; Dodo, Nicolussi Caviglia, Mandragora, Gosens; Fazzini; Gudmundsson, Kean

Roma: Svilar; Hermoso, Mancini, Ndicka; Rensch, Kone, El Aynaoui, Tsimikas; Soule, El Shaarawy; Dovbyk

Fiorentina vs Roma Betting Tips

Marin Pongracic To Be Booked: +210

Fiorentina are in desperate need of a win in Serie A this season, as Stefano Pioli’s time in Florence is coming under increasing pressure and Luciano Spalletti has been linked with the managerial job.

One man that has been a consistent member of the side and a star performer is Marin Pongracic, as the Croatian international has started in every league match so far.

The Croatian has helped keep two clean sheets in Fiorentina’s last two matches across all competitions, but the 28-year-old has been in the referee’s notebook on multiple occasions.

In his five league appearances so far, Pongracic has picked up three yellow cards, already matching his tally from the 2024/25 campaign and we expect the Croatian to add to this against a tricky Roma front-line.
