How Much Cash Would It Take For Juventus To Even Tempt Newcastle Into Selling Azzurri Star Sandro Tonali?

With the latest Sandro Tonali transfer news further reaffirming Juventus’ interest, could the Old Lady actually afford the Azzurri international? 

Tonali is widely regarded as one of the finest central midfielders in world soccer. His efforts at current employers Newcastle have certainly not gone unnoticed in recent seasons.

Even former England and Manchester United star Paul Scholes labelled Tonali as a better player than the likes of Premier League stars Declan Rice and Moises Caicedo.

At the back end of last season, Juventus were linked with Sandro Tonali. Although a summer bid was never actually tabled, the Bianconeri still has aspirations of bringing the midfield maestro back to Italy.

Now, the Italian giants’ interest has re-emerged. When it came to Serie A transfers in the summer, Juve spent just shy of €140million. Only Milan splashed more cash.

Therefore, their resources have been well and truly exhausted. However, Tonali remains a priority target and head coach Igor Tudor is keen to bring him to Turin.

It reamins to be seen at this stage whether Juve will try to lure Tonali back to Serie A. With that said, former employers AC Milan are also keeping tabs on the 25-year-old star.

Will Sandro Tonali Sign A New Contract?

As per reports via TeamTalk, Newcastle are considering offering Sandro Tonali a new contract on Tyneside. That duty will fall to new sporting director Ross Wilson.

Having recently joined from Nottingham Forest, Wilson will be tasked with overseeing the process of tying current stars down to new long-term deals.

Although Tonali still has three years to run on his contract, the Magpies know how vital it is to their continued success to keep someone of his class at St James’ Park.

Although negotiations are yet to begin, they are certainly top of Wilson’s to do list. Tonali recently confessed he is happy in England. However, he also stated that “you never know what will happen.”

That in itself will be music to the ears of the hierarchy at Juventus and Milan. Only time will tell what happens but it at least provides a snippet of hope.

How Would Juventus Afford Sandro Tonali?

As much as Juventus favors a move for Sandro Tonali, a switch at this stage is extremely unlikely. Affording Sandro Tonali would easily cost north of €100m.

Something of which Juve wouldn’t be able to fork out on one player. Therefore, a part exchange is the only plausible avenue to explore. Especially as he cost Newcastle €70m back in 2023.

However, is there anybody currently on the Old Lady’s books who the Magpies would deem a suitable replacement? Probably not. Teun Koopmeiners has been mentioned but it’s doubtful he would be able to fill the void.

As it stands, Juve don’t have either the cash or players to tempt Eddie Howe’s side into parting company with a world class star such as Tonali. But in the future, nothing can be ruled out.
