What Defenders Could AC Milan Target In January As Thiago Silva’s Agent Rules Out San Siro Return
AC Milan will need to turn their attention elsewhere after it was revealed Thiago Silva won't be re-joining in the winter window.
According to the latest AC Milan transfer news, Thiago Silva will not be re-joining the Rossoneri in January.
Silva’s agent was quick to rule out a San Siro return this winter. The veteran defender previously spent three seasons with the Diavolo and won the Scudetto in 2010-11.
Now, the Serie A giants are expected to look at other potential suitors but which players could improve Max Allegri’s side for the second-half of the season?

AC Milan Transfer News – No Thiago Silva Return
In September, it was reported that AC Milan was interested in signing Thiago Silva. Although talk of Silva’s return never really diminished, the player’s representation has firmly put the rumors to bed.
“Thiago has a contract with Fluminense that is valid until the end of the 2025-2026 season and he intends to honor it fully, out of respect for the agreements made with the club,” said Paulo Tonietto – Silva’s agent.
“For the future, never say never? Of course, but not now.”
AC Milan Transfer News – What Defenders Could Be Signed In January?
Although there is a slim chance of AC Milan one day being reunited with Thiago Silva, head coach Max Allegri will be casting his eye over other defenders in January.
Allegri will likely opt for experienced stars as his oldest center-back is Fikayo Tomori. The Englishman turns 28 in December so signing players who have plied their trade across Europe for the bulk of their careers will be the most appealing.
Joe Gomez
Someone of which Milan could opt for is Joe Gomez. The Liverpool man has endured a number of injuries in recent seasons but appears to be over the worst of them.
Gomez has only featured four times in the Premier League this season and could leave Anfield in the winter window. However, doubts will remain about his long-term fitness but his talent is undeniable.
A lot will boil down to whether Arne Slot can find a replacement. If the Reds head coach can do that, a loan deal with an obligation to buy is a feasible option.
Failing that, a permanent deal in the region of €10m-€15million is also achievable. Especially if extra funds are raised by selling Santiago Gimenez.
Min-jae-Kim
Another candidate worth considering is Min-jae Kim. The former Napoli star certainly has the experience required and is only a bit-part player at Bayern Munich this season.
Kim was part of Luciano Spalletti’s I Partenopei roster who won Serie A in 2022-23. Which could prove hugely beneficial as Max Allegri eyes the Scudetto.
Competition for the South Korean international is expected to be fierce with a number of Europe’s elite all monitoring the 29-year-old.
In fact, it’s unclear at this stage whether Bayern would want to move Kim on although he has fallen down the pecking order in Bavaria. It’s definitely an option for Milan to explore, though.
Thomas Kristensen
Granted, Thomas Kristensen may not have as much experience as what the other two candidates have but he has excelled during his time with Udinese.
Still only 24, Kristensen is a towering center-back who stands at 6ft 6in tall. The Danish international has been on Milan’s radar for some time now and a move in January is a strong possibility.
It’s likely that Kristensen will feature on matchday 12 having missed the last seven games with a hamstring injury. Should he hit the ground running, the Rossoneri could do a lot worse than signing the Bianconeri star.
Statistically, Kristensen ranked first in a number of defensive departments such as tackles won and clearances before he was sidelined. Udinese could be tempted into negotiations if a bid of €20m+ comes in.
