Massimiliano Allegri is reportedly willing to let Santiago Gimenez leave AC Milan, so we have looked into five teams that could sign the Mexican in 2026.

Will Santiago Gimenez Leave AC Milan?

Santiago Gimenez could be on his way out of Milan during the January transfer window, as the Mexican international has fallen out of favor under Max Allegri.

The 24-year-old joined the Rossoneri in the 2025 January window after scoring 65 goals in 105 appearances for Feyenoord, bringing a huge reputation with him.

However, after scoring just seven goals in 30 appearances for Milan, the Mexican finds himself in a precarious position and may be shown the exit next year.

Gimenez’s future in Italy has also taken a hit as AC Milan are one of the four Serie A sides interested in Robert Lewandowski and the Polish international would become a regular starter at San Siro.

The Mexican has scored just one goal in eight Serie A starts this season and could be pushed further down the pecking order after a recent ankle injury.

His deal with the Rossoneri does not expire until June 2029, meaning Milan will be looking to recoup the majority, if not more, of the €30 million they spent on Gimenez.

Staying in Milan and proving himself is something that Gimenez is prioritizing, but if the Mexican fails to meet expectations he could be looking for a new place to call home in January.

Who Could Sign Santiago Gimenez?

Sunderland

One side that has been heavily linked with the AC Milan striker is Premier League high-flyers, Sunderland, as the Black Cats continue an unexpected push to European qualification.

Regis Le Bris’ side have stunned spectators during the 2025/26 campaign so far following their promotion to England’s top-flight last season, sitting fourth in the table with 19-points from 11 matches.

A strong summer window has proved to be vital for Sunderland, with Granit Xhaka putting in some stellar performances as club captain after his move from Bayer Leverkusen.

Le Bris will be aware that wins will be hard to come by as the season progresses and strengthening in the January transfer window will be a necessity.

The Black Cats spent over €170m during the recent summer transfer window, meaning funds could be tighter next year and Gimenez’s €30m asking price could be an obstacle.

West Ham

Moving to the Premier League appears to be the most likely outcome for Gimenez if he parts ways with AC Milan and West Ham are set to rival Sunderland for the Mexican’s signature in January.

The Hammers are set to lose Niclas Fullkrug in the upcoming transfer window, as the German continues to struggle in the Premier League.

Reports are indicating that the 32-year-old could be on his way to AC Milan, but fans aren’t excited about signing Niclas Fullkrug, with the German scoring three goals in 27 Premier League appearances.

However, if the former Borussia Dortmund striker does opt for a move to Italy, then he could be used in a swap-deal that sees Gimenez don the West Ham jersey.

Nuno Espirito Santo will be looking for major financial backing in the January window after taking the job from Graham Potter, as West Ham currently sit 18th in the Premier League.

Fenerbahce

Looking away from England now, Fenerbahce are reportedly monitoring Gimenez’s situation in Milan as the Turkish side look to continue their unbeaten start in the Super Lig.

With eight wins and four draws from their opening 12 league matches, Fenerbahce currently sit second in the table and just one-point behind Galatasaray.

Domenico Tedesco’s men have also picked up seven points from four Europa League matches, but there could be some movement in the January window around former Aston Villa striker, Jhon Duran.

The Colombia signed for Fenerbahce on a one-year loan from Al Nassr during the summer, but is reportedly looking to end this agreement at the beginning of 2025 after making just three league appearances.

If Fenerbahce decide to terminate the 21-year-old’s loan deal, then Tedesco will be forced into signing an additional striker to support Youssef En Nesyri.

Roma

Finally, Gimenez could decide to stay in Italy for the remainder of the 2025/26 season and Roma are reportedly looking to sign a striker in the January transfer window.

Gian Piero Gasperini has enjoyed a strong start as the Giallorossi manager, sitting second in Serie A after 11 matches and level on points with table-toppers, Inter Milan.

However, Roma’s performance in front of goal has failed to meet expectations this season, scoring just 12 goals in 11 league matches and failing to get the best out of Evan Ferguson.

The Irishman is currently dealing with an ankle injury and Roma are considering the option of cutting Ferguson’s time in the Italian capital short next year.

Gasperini will be desperate to add another goal-scorer to his ranks in January and Gimenez could be available for an inflated fee due to the rivalry with AC Milan.
