AC Milan Fans Shouldn’t Get Too Excited About Signing Niclas Fullkrug – Here’s Why
AC Milan are looking to strengthen their attack for the second-half of the 2025-26 campaign and have cast their eye over struggling German forward Niclas Fullkrug
The latest Niclas Fullkrug transfer news has revealed interest from AC Milan, but should Rossoneri supporters be worried by his poor stats?
Fullkrug looks almost certain to leave current employers West Ham in January. The veteran forward has struggled in his 18 months with the English Premier League side.
With the 2026 FIFA World Cup on the horizon, Fullkrug will be desperate for more game time to ensure he makes Germany’s roster.

Niclas Fullkrug Transfer News
On November 5, FootItalia’s Serie A transfer news first highlighted AC Milan’s reported interest in Niclas Fullkrug. According to reports in Germany, Fullkrug wants to leave West Ham as soon as possible.
The forward has already informed the club of his desire to quit and Milan has shown an interest. Max Allegri is very much on the lookout for a goalscorer going into the second-half of the campaign.
Allegri feels that Santiago Gimenez and Christopher Nkunku aren’t up to the task. The latter was the record Serie A transfer this summer but has only scored one Coppa Italia goal.
Much of the burden lies on the shoulders of USMNT star Christian Pulisic as well as Rafael Leao. As brilliant as both have been in 2025-26, injuries have hampered their progress and Allegri wants more firepower.
Niclas Fullkrug’s West Ham Stats
Although Niclas Fullkrug starred at last year’s European Championship, his time at West Ham has been largely forgettable.
Since completing his move from Borussia Dortmund in August 2024, the forward has scored just three times in all competitions from 27 outings.
That equates to a goal every nine games. A pretty dismal return considering around €30million was laid out for his services from the Bundesliga giants.
All three of his goals came in the 2024-25 Premier League season. This term, he has failed to find the target in seven games and has mustered just 385 minutes of action.
Fullkrug has one of the lowest ratings on WhoScored at just 6.22. That in itself is a stark reminder why AC Milan supporters won’t be too excited about the possibility of his mid-season arrival.
Niclas Fullkrug Injury Record
Niclas Fullkrug’s struggles on the pitch can be excused to an extent – owing to the amount of time he has spent on the sidelines with various fitness and injury concerns.
Especially during his ill-fated spell with West Ham. To date, Fullkrug has missed a total of 32 games for the Hammers. He missed 16 games between September and December last year.
The 32-year-old also missed a further 12 matches between January and April 2025. Fast-forward to the current campaign, Fullkrug hasn’t featured since the 2-0 loss to Arsenal at the beginning of October.
He is expected to return after this month’s internationals but doesn’t figure in head coach Nuno Espirito Santo’s plans. The Portuguese boss is putting more faith in fellow veteran Callum Wilson.
Before joining the Londoners, Fullkrug didn’t spend much time on the sidelines dating back to the 2019-20 campaign. That further highlights why AC Milan need their reservations if they were to pursue a deal.
Who Else Is Interested In Signing Niclas Fullkrug?
It’s not just AC Milan who have shortlisted Niclas Fullkrug, there is also interest from Bundesliga clubs Wolfsburg and Augsburg.
Both sides are currently struggling in Germany’s elite and see the German international as a suitable acquisition who can help eradicate their relegation concerns.
After all, Fullkrug did shine during his days at Hannover 96, Werder Bremen and most recently, Borussia Dortmund. And that is something else Milan needs to be cautious over.
It’s apparent that Fullkrug has struggled to adapt when playing in foreign leagues. His poor recent form and injuries are huge red flags, but his lack of ability to change his game provides another factor why the Rossoneri are better off elsewhere.
That is why it’s more likely that Fullkrug returns to his homeland. A mid-season switch to Italy is appealing but the player himself knows he’ll better his World Cup chances playing in the Bundesliga.
AC Milan Attacking Transfer Targets
After AC Milan moved a step closer to building a new San Siro stadium last week, the Serie A giants want to produce a squad that is capable of competing at the highest level.
Granted, the stadium isn’t expected to be ready until 2031 but the club will be keen to move into the venue with a team that can compete on all fronts.
Winning the Scudetto this season would be the perfect place to start but in order to achieve said aim, the Rossoneri need an out-and-out goalscorer.
Although Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee has struggled in England, the former Bologna star was widely considered as one of Serie A’s hottest talents during his time with the Rossoblu.
In fact, Milan legend Ruud Gullit has urged a return to Italy. Zirkzee’s compatriot even confessed he wished that the forward made the move to the Diavolo.
Naturally, Zirkzee knows the Italian game very well and is well acquainted with Max Allegri’s side. The 24-year-old actually netted against the Milan giants in the 2023-24 campaign.
Elsewhere, a short-term solution comes in the form of Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski. Reports surfaced in September about Lewey’s availability as his Barca contract expires in June.
With that in mind, it would be hard for the Rossoneri to tempt the LaLiga giants to part ways with the Polish superstar in January. However, it is not beyond the realm of possibility.
Another option comes in the form of Verona hotshot Giovane. Rivals Inter Milan have been linked with the Brazilian forward who is reportedly available for €15-18m.
From AC’s perspective, any one of those three targets would surely be safer options to explore over Niclas Fullkrug.
