Hakan Calhanoglu Won’t Resume Inter Milan Contract Talks Until The End Of The Season

Inter Milan have put contract negotiations with Hakan Calhanoglu on hold until the conclusion of the 2025-26 campaign. 

That is according to Gazzetta dello Sport, who insist both club and player are happy to put talks on ice. Calhanoglu’s future has been the source of speculation since the summer with Galatasaray keen on the Turkish ace.

The midfielder joined Inter in 2021 from city rivals AC Milan on a free transfer. Naturally, the Nerazzurri will not want to be on the receiving end of losing Calhanoglu for nothing when his own deal expires in 2027.

With Galatasaray interested in Hakan Calhanoglu, Inter Milan has agreed with the Turkey international that contract talks will reconvene at the end of the current campaign.

In the off season, it appeared that Calhanoglu would leave Inter amid criticism from supporters. The playmaker had discussed personal terms with the Turkish giants but a transfer fee couldn’t be agreed.

Even Lautaro Martinez – who recently committed to the Nerazzurri – slammed Calhanoglu. However, all that has long been forgotten.

Now, it appears the 31-year-old star will sit down with the club to thrash out new terms. It’s unclear at this stage whether Calhanoglu will stay but the fact he is willing to listen to Inter’s offer suggests his heart is still very much in Milan.

Hakan Calhanoglu Inter Milan Salary

According to Capology, Hakan Calhanoglu is currently paid a basic salary of €213,000 per week. That makes him the third-highest earner at Inter Milan behind Nicolo Barella and Lautaro Martinez.

It’s very likely that Calhanoglu will want an increase in order to stay. However, Inter won’t be held to ransom. Even more so as he turns 32 in February.

Players of that age typically wouldn’t be given a rise but his strong performances perhaps do merit it. Or even a contract for 3-4 years but on the same money.

From Galatasaray’s perspective, they would surely go above and beyond to get Calhanoglu on board. He is considered one of the greatest Turkish players of all-time and would become an instant fan favorite.

What Trophies Has Hakan Calhanoglu Won At Inter Milan?

Owing to the success Hakan Calhanoglu has had at Inter Milan, it has the potential to be very damaging should the contract talks not go smoothly next summer.

Calhanoglu was part of the Inter side who won their most recent Scudetto in 2023-24. The Turkey star played 32 league games and netted a career seasonal-high 13 times in Italy’s elite.

His goals were vital to the Nerazzurri’s success and he also helped the side to two Coppa Italia’s (2020-21 and 2021-22) whilst also lifting three Supercoppa Italiana’s.

Calhanoglu was also a vital cog in the two Inter sides who made the Champions League finals in 2023 and 2025. Overall, he has won six trophies whilst contributing 44 goals and 35 assists across 198 outings in all competitions.
