AC Milan Target Real Madrid Star And Remain Hopeful Luka Modric Influence Can Help Finalize Deal

Andriy Lunin has emerged as a transfer target for Serie A title-chasers AC Milan. 

The Rossoneri are on the lookout for a new goalkeeper with current first choice stopper Mike Maignan’s future up in the air.

Head coach Max Allegri is a keen admirer of Lunin and is hoping that a certain Luka Modric can help assist in getting a potential deal over the line.

Although recent reports suggest that AC Milan aren’t pursuing Sergio Ramos, another Real Madrid hero could be on his way to the San Siro.

In the summer, Los Blancos legend Luka Modric ended his 13-year association with the Spanish giants in favor of Serie A. Now, the midfield maestro is expected to play a key role in convincing Andriy Lunin to join him in Italy.

The duo played with each other at the Bernabeu for four years whereby they won a number of trophies. Having played second fiddle to Thibaut Courtois, Lunin is ready for a new venture.

Milan is keeping a close eye on the Ukrainian international and believes he would make a welcome addition to the club. And who better than Modric to convince him to swap Spain for a Scudetto challenge.

How Much Would Andriy Lunin Cost?

According to TransferMarkt, Andriy Lunin is currently valued at €18m. The 6ft 3in goalkeeper still has three-and-a-half years to run on his current deal.

However, Real Madrid would likely let the 26-year-old leave for around €20-25m. Assuming they Spaniards can find a suitable replacement.

The Ukraine international has been with Los Blancos since 2018. During that time, he has made less than 40 LaLiga appearances and spent time on loan at Oviedo, Leganes and Vallodolid.

From AC Milan’s perspective, they will be hopeful that Luka Modric can speak to the club’s hierarchy about getting Lunin on board.

Will Mike Maignan Quit AC Milan?

Even though a new Mike Maignan contract has been strongly discussed – especially after his Milan derby heroics – it’s still unclear whether he’ll pen new terms.

There are a number of English Premier League suitors all interested. The main contender is Chelsea who are still not fully convinced by Robert Sanchez.

Max Allegri would much rather Maignan sign an improved deal. However, the Italian boss has to be realistic and cast his eye over other targets. One of which is Andriy Lunin.

The 26-year-old has proven a solid stand in for Thibaut Courtois when required. Now, the Ukraine international is ready to make the step up and become the no. 1 choice for one of Italy’s and Europe’s elite.
