AC Milan Reconsider Mike Maignan Contract Extension Amid Premier League Interest

Following a heroic performance in the Derby della Madonnina, AC Milan are set to offer Mike Maignan a new contract as the Frenchman’s deal with the Rossoneri expires in June 2026.
AC Milan To Offer Mike Maignan New Contract
Mike Maignan was the hero during AC Milan’s 1-0 victory over Inter Milan, producing a tremendous stop to keep-out a Hakan Calhanoglu penalty in the 74th minute.
The Frenchman made six saves to keep out the likes of Lautaro Martinez and led to the AC Milan star winning the MOTM award, despite Christian Pulisic scoring the only goal of the game.
Keeping Inter Milan at bay made it five clean sheets in 11 appearances for Maignan this season, highlighting the 30-year-old’s importance to the Rossoneri.
Massimiliano Allegri is clearly a huge fan of his number one and this relationship could play a vital role in Maginan’s future in Milan after multiple rumors over a move next summer.
In June 2026, Maignan will be out of contract in Serie A, and there has been no progress in talks around a new deal as the Frenchman continues to attract interest from other European sides.
The France international was moments away from joining Chelsea in the recent summer transfer window, after agreeing terms with the Premier League side.
The two clubs were unable to agree on a fee and Maignan returned to Milan for the final year of his contract – but refused to enter any contract extension talks until 2026.
The Rossoneri have been considering possible replacements to prepare for Maignan’s possible departure, as Milan are one of the Serie A sides interested in signing Emiliano Martinez.
However, Maignan’s performances this season appear to have halted any move for a new shot-stopper and the Rossoneri are reportedly ready to offer the Frenchman a fresh deal in Milan.
Adjusting the 30-year-old’s salary could be a difficult task for the Rossoneri, as Maignan is reportedly earning €4.2 million per year which is less than 12 other players in Milan.
Maignan may be looking for an improved deal due to his importance to the team, leaving Milan in a difficult position as the Frenchman continues to perform but nears his 31st birthday.
The AC Milan star will be well-aware of interest from outside of Italy that could lead to an increased salary and this could play a big part in Maignan’s decision next-year.

Maignan Tempted By Premier League Move
The French international will be able to enter pre-contract negotiations with another club during the January transfer window as his deal in Milan comes to an end in June.
Multiple players in Serie A could face this dilemma in January, as Paulo Dybala is yet to sign a new contract with Roma and could agree a move elsewhere in 2026.
Maignan’s situation with Milan is slightly different as the Frenchman has been extremely close to leaving the Rossoneri in recent transfer windows.
The main issue in negotiations between Milan and Maignan has been around the Frenchman’s salary, as the 30-year-old is reportedly looking for between €5-6m per year.
Receiving this increase from Milan is unlikely, meaning the former Lille star will consider other options next year and Maignan has attracted interest from the Premier League.
Chelsea’s interest from the summer may have cooled after a strong start to the season, as the Blues sit second in the Premier League and Robert Sanchez sits joint-top of the clean sheet rankings with seven.
Enzo Maresca was not the only Premier League manager to show interest in Maignan last summer, as Ruben Amorim reportedly pushed to sign the Frenchman before bringing in Senne Lammens.
The Belgian shot-stopper has made a strong start to his Red Devils career, but Amorim may be looking for a more experienced goalie to help ease Lammens into the side.
Although a move to the Premier League appears to be the most likely outcome for Maignan, there has been persistent interest from Saudi Arabia that would bring a monstrous salary increase.
