Paulo Dybala is out of contract in June 2026 and Roma have stalled in negotiations over concerns around the Argentines salary requests.

Roma Unsure Over Paulo Dybala Contract Extension

The 32-year-old has faced another injury set-back in Serie A and the Giallorossi are now holding back on any contract negotiations before the turn of the year.

Dybala started the season with a clear hamstring issue, coming off the bench in the opening three matches before missing two league matches between September 21st-28th.

Roma started to see the best out of their star man as Dybala made four consecutive starts in Serie A between MD7-MD10, registering two goal contributions along the way (1G + 1A).

However, this consistency was short-lived as Dybala was forced off during Roma’s 1-0 defeat by AC Milan on November 2nd and has not appeared for the Giallorossi since.

The Argentine suffered a medium-grade injury in the left thigh and was expected to return after the recent international break, but Dybala’s condition appears to have taken a step-back.

Dealing with these repeated injuries has left the 32-year-old in a precarious position over, as his contract in the Italian capital expires next year and the Serie A side are not full-convinced over Dybala’s display under Gian Piero Gasperini.

Although Dybala’s injury issues have caused concern in Rome, the Argentine’s salary expectations are reportedly adding further stress to negotiations.

Roma currently pay the former Juventus star €8 million per year, making him the highest paid player at the club and this is something that the Giallorossi want to change.

This is a similar situation to what AC Milan are facing regarding Christian Pulisic, as the USMNT star’s salary request is far higher than what the Rossoneri were expecting.

However, Dybala’s stance in negotiations is a lot weaker than the AC Milan forward, as the Argentine is over 30 and has not contributed with the same level of output as Pulisic.

The 32-year-old is unwilling to take a substantial pay-cut, but is still hoping to sign a new deal in Rome next year.

Roma have still managed to find results in Dybala’s absence, as Gasperini’s side sit second in Serie A and level on points with table-toppers, Inter Milan.

The Giallorossi have struggled to score in Italy’s top-flight, with just 12 goals in 11 matches and Roma will be looking to make some adjustments in attack next year – meaning Dybala could be forced out of the club.

Paulo Dybala To Consider Argentina Return

Dybala has been very vocal about his commitment to Roma and how he wants to stay in the Italian capital for years-to-come, but his lack of availability may leave Gasperini with no choice but to find a new star man.

The 32-year-old has contributed to 67 goals in 122 appearances for Roma since joining in July 2022, becoming the lead talisman at Stadio Olimpico.

Despite this strong run in the Italian capital, Dybala is yet to win a piece of silverware with Roma and if the Giallorossi go on to win the Scudetto this season then the 32-year-old may look to leave on a high.

Dybala will be available to enter pre-contract negotiations in January as his deal comes to an end in June 2026 and multiple sides will be keen to sign the Roma star on a free deal.

One option that may tempt the Giallorossi forward is a move back to Argentina, returning to play in his home nation for the first time since leaving Instituto ACC in 2012.

The Giallorossi have been linked with some star names that could replace Dybala next year, with Roma being one of the Serie A sides interested in Santiago Gimenez.

Dybala has also caught the eye in Turkey, attracting interest from Galatasaray and Fenerbahce, but the 32-year-old reportedly prefers a move back to Argentina.
