Both Roma and Everton are owned by The Friedkin Group.

Roma are reportedly considering a swap deal which would see Artem Dovbyk join Everton with Beto heading the other way.

Roma want Beto as Artem Dovbyk in frame for potential Everton move

The Giallorossi are looking to strengthen their attacking ranks in the January transfer window.

Reports say Joshua Zirkzee is Roma’s first-choice target up front, but other names have been doing the rounds.

Lorenzo Lucca and Jeff Ekhator are reportedly targets for Roma, while Everton’s Beto has been mentioned recently.

Now, Gazzetta dello Sport have provided a development on the Beto front.

They claim Roma are mulling over a deal that would see Beto join them, while Dovbyk would link up with Everton.

Beto, 27, joined Everton in 2023 and is now mainly a back-up option at the Liverpool-based club.

He has Serie A experience, having previously played for Udinese.

Dovbyk, 28, arrived at Roma from Girona in 2024 after finishing as La Liga’s top scorer.

Gazzetta described both forwards as seeking a reset, with the swap framed as a chance for each to revive form.

It called the talks “simple” in structure because The Friedkin Group owns Roma and Everton, controlling both player registrations.

The Friedkins completed their takeover of Everton in December 2024, adding the club to a portfolio that already included Roma.

However, any move would still require agreement from the players and satisfaction of Premier League and Serie A registration rules.

Reports also said the swap would not necessarily rule out another striker arriving, depending on departures and the wider market.

Although Evan Ferguson’s Roma career has picked up, Gazzetta speculates that he is likely to return to Brighton.

Other transfer business on Roma agenda

The report also touched upon Roma’s interest in Zirkzee, before discussing a ‘Plan B’ for Freddy Massara.

Corinthians ace Yuri Alberto is a possibility for the Giallorossi should they fail to sign the Manchester United man.

Massara’s work is not limited to the striker search, with Roma also looking at wide options and squad depth.

Roma’s pursuit of Mathys Tel is becoming “more complicated”, with Tottenham’s recent squad decisions suggesting he remains in their plans.

The Giallorossi’s fallback name is Giacomo Raspadori, but any deal would require Atletico Madrid to accept a loan formula.

A similar situation applies to Albert Gudmundsson, who is reportedly keen to leave Fiorentina.

His agent, Valerio Giuffrida, has also floated the names of Ekhator and Eintracht Frankfurt defender Aurele Amenda, according to reports.

Foot Italia has looked at what could be under Roma’s Christmas tree in terms of transfer targets.
