Lazio have joined Roma in the chase for Hellas Verona forward Giovane, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

The 22-year-old has emerged as one of Serie A’s standout surprise performers this season, with three goals and four assists so far.

Meanwhile, Lazio and Roma are both in pursuit of attacking reinforcements in the January transfer window.

Lazio have lost Taty Castellanos to West Ham, while Roma are looking to freshen up their attacking ranks.

Hellas Verona slap €15m price tag on Lazio and Roma target Giovane

Speculation linking Roma and Giovane has already been doing the rounds, as reported by FootItalia recently.

The likes of Inter, AC Milan and Juventus have reportedly also shown an interest in Giovane.

However, Di Marzio has now reported that Lazio have entered the fray for the young Brazilian.

The report claims the Biancocelesti are the ‘first’ in line with regards to interest in Giovane.

However, Verona have set an asking price of around €15m, which Di Marzio claims is ‘high’.

The transfer insider has also reiterated that Roma are eyeing Giovane, while Atalanta are also in the fold.

In addition, Lazio and Roma are both keen on Giacomo Raspadori, whose Atletico Madrid stint isn’t giving him enough minutes.

Why Giovane is such an appealing target

Giovane ticks a lot of boxes for the high-end Serie A clubs, as he is young, has a lot of room to improve, and is proving himself in Serie A.

He is a modern, left-footed striker capable of operating as both a winger and a second striker.

Giovane is also great at getting past players thanks to his skill and his pace with the ball.

However, Di Marzio has noted that Giovane may not be the ideal replacement for Castellanos at Lazio.

The Brazilian is more of a second striker as opposed to a centre-forward, meaning Lazio would need more goals from elsewhere.

Nevertheless, Giovane is an extremely talented player with a bright future in the game, hence the considerable interest from the ‘big’ in Serie A.
