The Italian defender is considering a reunion with former Azzurri manager Roberto Mancini, as Al Sadd are interested in signing Alessio Romagnoli.

At 31-years-old the Lazio defender is far from the final stages of his career, however Romagnoli is reportedly tempted by a major salary increase.

Maurizio Sarri is a huge fan of Romagnoli, as the defender has started in 18 consecutive Serie A matches this season and remains an important member of the Laziali.

The veteran manager has recently taken aim at Lazio’s hierarchy and losing another star player could cause Sarri to consider his future in the Italian capital.

Taty Castellanos and Matteo Guendouzi parted ways with the Italian side during the opening stages of the January transfer window, which has sent concern around the club’s depth.

Losing Romagnoli this month would be a major issue for Lazio and this could become a reality as Roberto Mancini is looking to bring another Italian to Qatar.

The Lazio star has worked with Mancini in the past after their time with the Azzurri and Mancini believes Romagnoli could be a key addition in January.

However, the Serie A side are not going to accept this deal without a fight and Maurizio Sarri is hoping to extend Romagnoli’s deal with Lazio.

Lazio To Offer Romagnoli New Deal

Romagnoli’s contract at Lazio is set to expire in June 2027, meaning Al Sadd will be able to sign the Italian for a lower fee as his deal nears its end.

The Italian has been with the Laziali for almost four-years after joining in July 2022 and Romagnoli has gone on to make 143 appearances for the Serie A side.

The 31-year-old has never played outside of Italy, donning the jersey at Roma, Sampdoria, AC Milan and Lazio, tallying 353 appearances in Italy’s top-flight.

This consistency is set to be rewarded by the Laziali, as Sarri is reportedly ready to offer Romagnoli a one-year extension ahead of the 2026/27 season.

Lazio have earmarked multiple targets for this January window, meaning the Italian side will be looking for some funds – making a host of exits possible.

Romagnoli is currently the highest paid player at Lazio, earning a reported €5.5million per year and this salary could take a huge increase in Qatar – with Roberto Firmino earning €30m per year.
