AC Milan Make Christian Pulisic Team News Decision Vs Como As Niclas Fullkrug Returns

Pulisic was unusually wasteful in the 1-1 draw with Fiorentina.

AC Milan are set to spring a team news bombshell with Christian Pulisic to be benched against Como.

AC Milan Team News Vs Como Revealed

Milan will look to close the gap on Serie A leaders Inter to three points when they travel to the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia on Thursday night, with little room for another slip-up.

Massimiliano Allegri has a selection headache on his hands, and several big decisions have been made up front.

It has been suggested in Italy that Christopher Nkunku has been picked ahead of Christian Pulisic as Rafael Leao’s strike partner, with the American roundly criticised for his display against Fiorentina last time out.

The Rossoneri carved out a host of golden opportunities, largely stemming from Niclas Fullkrug’s impressive performance on his first start since joining from West Ham United, but Pulisic was unusually wasteful.

With the forward having also played 90 minutes in the past two matches, Allegri has opted to hold him back.

That has freed up room for Leao and the rejuvenated Nkunku to dovetail.

Midfield triumverate Luka Modric, Adrien Rabiot and Youssouf Fofana are also expected to return to the XI, while centre-back Fikayo Tomori is back from his ban.

Como will put up a tough challenge, with Cesc Fabregas’ European chasers unbeaten at home so far this season.

Milan will have been boosted, then, by Fullkrug’s earlier-than-expected comeback. The on-loan frontman suffered a broken toe in Florence last weekend, but was able to take part in recent training sessions.

He is believed to be feeling optimistic about his fitness levels and will therefore likely be on the bench.

Fullkrug’s injury setback could have sidelined him for a month, while Allegri had all but ruled him out against Como.

Massimiliano Allegri Urges Milan To Be Aggressive

Speaking during his pre-match press conference, boss Allegri urged Milan to get off to a quick start in Lombardy.

“We need to start being a little more aggressive in the game,” he said. “We’re a little fragile in both phases.

“And then we need to improve the game situations, especially being more technically precise. The players have excellent qualities. They need to be convinced that they’re a strong team.”

Allegri also admitted he was weighing up switching to a back four in the build-up to the match.

“This could be a solution, it’s something I’m thinking about,” he added. “We’re working on it. It depends on the times and the characteristics of the players I have available.

“Right now, I have Fullkrug out. If I fielded three forwards, I’d have no one on the bench.

“In Florence I was able to make important changes. I need to field a team, regardless of the playing system, also to have changes on the bench.”
