Bologna Question Vincenzo Italiano Future After Another Serie A Defeat

Vincenzo Italiano has come under huge pressure at Bologna as the Rossoblu were beaten 2-1 at home by relegation-battling Fiorentina.
Fiorentina Too Strong For Bologna
Fiorentina extended their unbeaten run in Serie A to four, as Paolo Vanoli’s side secured a narrow victory over Bologna at Stadio Renato Dall’Ara.
The visitors looked to have taken the lead after just 17-minutes as Cher Ndour got on to the end of a delightful cross from Dodo, but the effort was disallowed for offside following an intervention from VAR.
However, Fiorentina managed to break the deadlock just two-minutes later as Rolando Mandragora smashed the ball into the back of the net after a wicked delivery from Albert Gudmundsson.
La Viola doubled their lead on the stroke of half-time through Roberto Piccoli and this caused Vincenzo Italiano to make four substitutions during the break.
These changes made little impact for the majority of the half, before Giovanni Fabbian hand Fiorentina a glimmer of hope with just two-minutes of regular time left.
Fiorentina held on to their lead for the remainder of the match and secured their third victory of the season (in Serie A) – despite the absence of Moise Kean and Edin Dzeko.
La Viola’s star talisman missed the trip to Bologna through injury and are now being linked with moves away from Florence, as Dzeko attracts Ligue 1 interest.
Although the focus will be on Fiorentina’s strong form in Serie A, questions have started to be asked over Italiano’s future with Bologna.

The Rossoblu made a tremendous start to the 2025/26 campaign, going on a nine-match unbeaten streak between GW4-GW12 in Italy’s top-flight.
However, these performances have started to dwindle under Italiano and Bologna have picked-up just one win in their last nine Serie A encounters.
The January transfer window is set to bring a host of changes to Bologna in hopes of turning this poor form around and the Serie A side have already made their first signing in Eivind Helland.
Further signings are expected before the window comes to a close, but Bologna are reportedly hesitant over handing Italiano more funds due to Bologna’s recent performances.
The Italian is under contract until June 2027, meaning Bologna would have to pay a substantial severance fee to cut ties with Italiano this season.
Bologna are not going to rush into a decision, but the Serie A side are set to hold a meeting with their manager in hopes of turning this poor run around.
