Napoli Transfer Market Almost Unblocked as Conte Champions League Doubts Emerge
Napoli’s transfer market could reopen after a decisive vote, as Conte admits Champions League doubts and De Laurentiis challenges Serie A financial rules.
Conte Napoli Champions League Reality Check
“To be honest, we probably aren’t quite Champions League material.”
Antonio Conte doesn’t beat around the bush.
The 1-1 draw in Copenhagen, despite having a numerical advantage, can only be a disappointment for the reigning Italian champions.
Napoli might have slowed down in the Champions League, but they could get a big win on the transfer market thanks to Aurelio De Laurentiis’ moves in the League Council.
There’s going to be an extraordinary Federal Council meeting in the next few hours, called by the FIGC.
ADL has asked the go-ahead to use the cash reserves to cover the deficit.
With 16 votes in favour (Juventus, Inter and Roma didn’t vote, Milan voted against), the Council’s decision could immediately unblock the Napoli transfer market.
Napoli Transfer Market Possibly Unblocked by League Vote
Napoli’s transfer market is blocked because they haven’t met the 0.8 expanded labour cost indicator.
In other words the ratio between turnover and personnel costs.
Therefore Napoli can’t do any transfers in until they’ve got the same amount of money back as they spent.
This has pretty much stopped Manna from meeting Conte’s demands.
Aurelio De Laurentiis has been fighting for a while against the current parameters that have led to a zero-balance transfer market for Napoli.
The president is now asking to be able to use the money his club has saved up over the years to sort things out and get things back to normal on the transfer market straight away, without waiting for the summer.
So, De Laurentiis has called for – after a bit of a clash with the other presidents – and apparently got, an emergency Federal Council meeting to be held in the next few hours.
Milan voted against, while Juventus, Inter and Roma didn’t say yes or no.
It’s no coincidence that these are Napoli’s main rivals for the top four places, which at the end of the day are the real goal that the big teams can’t afford to miss out on.
Federal Council Vote Splits Serie A
ADL’s been backing this theory for months.
He really went after the federal councillors for not changing the rules earlier and even threatened legal action.
Giorgio Chiellini and Beppe Marotta, Juventus’ Director of Football Strategy and Inter’s President, weren’t happy with that.
It’ll be hard for them not to vote yes today, because in the FIGC they don’t represent their own positions, but the official ones of the League.
At the same time, they hope that the competition will scrap the change for at least two reasons.
This change will only benefit Napoli, even if it’s technically general and Serie A didn’t receive unanimous agreement on the request.
