Inter Milan are bizarrely relying on Bayern Munich in their pursuit of PSV Eindhoven’s Ivan Perisic.

PSV May Sell Ivan Perisic After Champions League Knockout

Perisic is a Nerazzurri target this month and could make a surprise return to the San Siro. Despite the winger being about to turn 37, his former club believe he can strengthen their right flank for six months.

Crucially, the veteran is keen on the switch to the San Siro, where he impressed between 2015 and 2022.

However, PSV are currently reluctant to let him leave. Indeed, they have no intention of giving up arguably their best forward, especially with their Champions League campaign precariously hanging in the balance.

The Dutch giants are 22nd in the competition and welcome Bayern in their final league phase game. Were the Bavarians to emerge victorious and knock PSV out, then Perisic could be given the green light to join Inter.

Peter Bosz’s side are still in the running for the play-offs, but a draw or defeat is set to see them eliminated.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, this scenario will likely see Perisic permitted to seal his Italy swansong.

No Agreement With PSV Eindhoven

Cristian Chivu and Inter’s hierarchy are on board, having held off on signing a new right-sided player despite Denzel Dumfries’ injury. The Dutchman is not expected back until February, and will need time to find his rhythm.

They are reluctant to throw youth into a difficult situation, making Perisic the ideal replacement. Also playing in the Croatian’s favour, Luis Henrique has underwhelmed, but he will stay until the end of the season.

The Nerazzurri need a tactically versatile player, able to help build attacks and help out defensively. Perisic would certainly tick both of these boxes despite his advancing age.

There remain several stumbling blocks, though. First and foremost, an agreement is still missing with PSV, who will wait at least another week before allowing talks over Perisic to advance.

Their demands are unclear, while Inter’s valuation is also a mystery. But with Perisic to make a renewed push for the move, depending on results in the Champions League, it remains on the cards.

Perisic has made 26 appearances across all competitions this season, totalling 1,856 minutes. 22 of those have been starts, while he has scored five goals and recorded 10 assists.

During his first stint at Inter, he played 254 matches, scoring an impressive 55 goals and laying on 50 assists. While the club would not expect him to reach those heights, they value his experience and attitude.

Now, only time will tell whether they are able to seal the deal.

Meanwhile, Inter are said to be aware that Alessandro Bastoni wants to join Barcelona next summer.
