Atalanta’s defensive woes continue as Odilon Kossounou is set to be out of action for at least two weeks due to a hamstring injury. The Ivorian defender, who had become a regular in Gian Piero Gasperini’s lineup, suffered a grade one muscle-fascial lesion in his right biceps femoris.
Sky Sport Italia report how Kossounou was forced off in the closing stages of Atalanta’s match against Shakhtar Donetsk and subsequently missed the game against Como. He remained at the club’s training ground in Zingonia during the international break for treatment.
This injury adds to Gasperini’s defensive headaches, as the team is already without several key players. Berat Djimsiti and Rafael Toloi were unavailable for the recent match at the Gewiss Stadium, while Giorgio Scalvini is not expected to return until December or early 2025.
The Atalanta coach will be hoping to recover some of his injured defenders during the international break. In addition to the defensive absentees, other unavailable players including Ruggeri, Brescianini, and Scamacca are also undergoing therapy at Zingonia.
