Fabio Cannavaro: “My goal is to one day coach Napoli”

Start

Former Italy and Juventus defender Fabio Cannavaro admits that his goal is to one day coach Napoli, his boyhood club. Speaking to Radio Serie A, the legendary Serie A centre-back shared his hopes for the Partenopei and explained why he would one day like to coach the club where he started his career:

“I’ve always said that coaching Napoli is a goal of mine. It’s just a matter of time; I know that if I start pursuing this career path, I will definitely be given the opportunity. Napoli is a team that everyone would like to coach for free; it has a technical quality superior to other teams.”

Addressing the possibility of seeing him on the Napoli bench this season, Cannavaro clarified, “This year, it was more of an idea from the media than from the club, but I continue on my path. No one has ever given me anything for free; I have a tough head, and I have always worked hard for what I have achieved. I still feel the fire inside me; that’s the desire that keeps me calm: we’ll wait and see.”

Reflecting on Napoli’s recent struggles following their Serie A title win, the former Ballon d’Or winner remarked, “Last season, there was a lot of work done by the club, the coach, and the staff. It was a perfect machine. This year, it entered a vortex of negativity that caused the players to have more doubts than certainties. It’s disheartening to see a team that won the title the previous year now languishing in mid-table.”
