France striker Olivier Giroud has reassured fans that he will be available for the Milan derby when he returns from international duty. The veteran striker suffered what looked to be an ankle injury during France’s 2-0 win over Ireland in the EURO 2024 qualifiers last night.
There were worrying scenes as he was forced to come off after just 25 minutes of play, prompting fears that he could miss game-week four of the Serie A campaign.
Speaking with La Gazzetta dello Sport, the striker reassured that the injury is not as bad as initially feared, and that he should be back in time for the derby against Inter:
“I made an unnatural movement on the same ankle on which I had taken a knock against Napoli in the Champions League. For the moment, I have a weakness, but its manageable, it hadn’t hurt for many weeks.
“I wanted to go on, but the ankle made me stop. But I’m already better, I’m not too worried. Tomorrow I’ll go for some tests. It’s a shame, because I wanted to play, but it’s better to stop.”
“Will I make the derby? Yes yes, I think I can make it.”
