Inzaghi: “Great Satisfaction, but There’s Some Regret”

Start

Simone Inzaghi says there was great satisfaction after Inter’s 1-0 win over Atletico Madrid, but admits there’s some regrets at the wasted chances. The Nerazzurri dominated the game and created a number of scoring opportunities, eventually taking the lead through Marko Arnautovic. Speaking after the match, Inzaghi analysed the game and admitted there were chances to take a bigger score-line to Madrid for the second-leg:

“Great satisfaction, the boys were excellent. We played against a physical and technical team. It’s the first leg, there will be an important return leg, but there’s some regret because we deserved a bit more.”

“In the second half, we weren’t good enough for the first ten minutes,” the coach admitted. “But then after that we were sensational. And all the players who came off the bench gave us a big hand.” That’s the way they always have to be. It was a great Inter performance,” Inzaghi added. “A great evening. But now we have to look to the return leg in Madrid.”

Regarding Arnautovic: “He came on very well, they are satisfying me in terms of how they train and how they come on. I’m happy for Marko, who found the goal.”

Inzaghi then addressed Thuram’s condition: “Thuram felt his adductor strain during a sprint, then he felt pain when he kicked. He will undergo tests, and hopefully, we won’t lose him for too long.”

“Dumfries and Augusto? They came on and did well, they did very well. But so did Dimarco and Darmian. They sacrificed a lot starting. In this formation, the wingbacks use a lot of energy, and so I needed to replace them. And let’s not forget that Tajon Buchanan is also a great player.”

The coach concluded: “Inter played a great game, but I’ll have to review it. We faced a top-quality opponent. The substitutions helped us; they came on very well, and we bounced back. We could have capitalized better on the chances we created.”
