Lazio director Fabiani: ‘Greenwood? I don’t want mercenaries’

Start

Lazio’s Sporting Director, Angelo Fabiani, recently addressed several key issues on the club’s official channels, touching on the clubs links with Mason Greenwood. The Biancocelesti were closely linked with the English winger, but have ultimately turned their attentions elsewhere. Fabiani began by setting the record straight:

“Greenwood was a target for us last year, but there was an issue with the player. Everyone knows the problem Greenwood faced. This year, an agent suggested the idea of bringing Greenwood to Italy. We set a deadline, and from there, an auction began. I felt we could only go so far.

“We offered £22 million for 50% of the player, which is about €26 million. He chose a different path, and I believe the best deals are the ones you don’t make. I want players like Rovella and Zaccagni, who love the environment they work in. I don’t want mercenaries.

“It’s a blessing not to make certain deals. I could sell out for €50,000 more, but I have values instilled in me by my parents. If Greenwood has taken another path, we wish him the best of luck.”
